Dementias: Understanding What They Are and How to Respond

We all know that the population of older adults is growing. We have better health care throughout life, good nutrition, and continual messages about how to stay healthy and engaged in meaningful lives.

Still, we have questions about diseases that impact our future.

In particular, we want to know about dementias, a group of diseases that makes memory, thinking and problem solving difficult over time.

  • What are dementias?
  • What causes them?
  • What can we do to avoid dementias or deal with them when they happen?
  • What is the timetable for changes, and
  • How will those changes affect seniors and their families?

Research about dementias is ongoing and, now, powerfully pursued by scientists all over the world. We have some answers, although not nearly enough yet.

In this section of The Age Coach website, we will post current information for both the person with a dementia and caregivers, and we will update often.
